A crash in Butler County, Missouri, adjoining counties Wayne and Dunklin, leads to serious injuries for a Poplar Bluff resident.

On August 3, 2011, at approximately 6:30 p.m., 43 year old Frank Hart of Poplar Bluff, Missouri was operating a 1991 Honda traveling eastbound on US 67 at Highway M. Highway US 67 travels through Arkansas and Missouri. Hart was traveling alone on this highway at said time and place. Jearald Dover was also traveling alone on US 67 around 6:30 p.m. Dover was operating a 1995 Dodge Van traveling southbound.

The crash occurred when Dover pulled into the path of Hart. Negligent lane changes accounted for over 3,000 car crashes in 2010 and is a growing problem for drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Study found that driver error was the primary cause of 90 percent of major traffic crashes, negligent lane changes and failed turn signals quickly become a big part of that 90 percent driver error. Dover, the driver displaying negligent driving, was wearing a safety device at the time of the attack. Hart was not wearing a safety device, which is proven to help decrease the likely hood of serious injuries and death drastically.

Hart sustained serious injuries and was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center by EMS. Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is a widely used medical center in southeastern Missouri. Dover did not sustain any injuries however his vehicle recieved total damage in the crash. Dover's vehicle was deemed unfixable and thus towed from the scene of the crash by Rushins. Hart's vehicle was also totaled and towed by Woolards from the scene of the crash.

This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper C. W. Tucker in Troop E. Troop E is located on US-67 in Butler County and is one of the original six troops within Highway Patrol. There are approximately 89 uniformed officers, 61 uniformed civilians, and 13 civillian employees assigned to the 13 county troop.
