Teenage Passenger Killed in Head-on Collision

In Dunklin County, a Kennett teenager was killed after the driver drove into the path of another vehicle in a head-on collision.

On January 26, 2013 at approximately 4:10 a.m., Zachary Williams, age 21 from Malden, Missouri was operating a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Racheal Dickens, age 19 from Malden, Missouri was operating a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Brooke Koenig, age 19 from Kennett, Missouri was the only passenger in Racheal Dickens' vehicle during the time of the collision.

At that said date and time, Zachary Williams was traveling in the eastbound direction as Racheal Dickens was in the westbound direction on Highway J and 4 miles west of Malden, Missouri. The collision occurred as Racheal was traveling west and pulled to the eastbound shoulder on the highway when Zachary Williams was approaching from the eastbound direction. Then, Racheal drove into the path of Zachary Williams and collided head-on with his vehicle.

Brooke Koenig was transported to Twin Rivers Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead by Dunklin County coroner, James Powell. Racheal Dickens received serious injuries from the collision and was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Zachary Williams was moderately injured in the crash and was also transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, none of the occupants named were wearing their seat belt at the time of the collision.

Zachary Williams' 1999 Ford Ranger received total damages and was towed by Dixie Wrecker in Malden, Missouri. Racheal Dickens' 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse received total damages from the collision and was towed by Southeast Towing of Campbell, Missouri.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop E. This is Troop E's 3rd fatality for 2013.
