In Vernon County, a 7 year-old girl from Carthage, Missouri was killed after the vehicle lost control on the ice covered road and overturned.
On February 2, 2013 at approximately 7:07 a.m., Daniel Castor, age 33 from Carthage, Missouri was operating a 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck. Kip Castor (7), Andrew Hesse (39), Avery Hesse (10), and Landry Hesse (7) were all inside the vehicles at the time of the crash.
At that said date and time, Daniel Castor was traveling in the northbound direction on I-49 and 3 miles south of Nevada, Missouri. The crash occurred as Daniel lost control of his vehicle on the ice covered roadway and traveled off the road down an embankment overturning.
Landry Hesse was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Vernon County coroner, David Ferry, and then was transported to Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Missouri. David Castor and Andrew Hesse were seriously injured from the crash and were transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Avery Hesse was transported to Freeman West Hospital with moderate injuries and Kip Castor was transported to Nevada Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Avery Hesse was the only passenger that was wearing their seat belt during the time of the crash.
Daniel Castor's 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck received total damages from the crash and was towed by Garwood's Towing of Nevada.
