Ray County, Missouri Bus Crash Leads to Injury for Nine Children

Nine Rayville and Richmond, Missouri children were injured when their school bus traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

On February 14, 2011 at approximately 3:10pm, 28 year old Chad Benton of Henrietta, Missouri was operating a 2006 International School Bus traveling northbound on Garner Road about a half a mile south of 120th. At that said time and place, Benton failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree head-on.

Benton was transporting nine children at the time of the crash. Nine year old Byron Carter, thirteen year old Kelly Carter, eleven year old Makayla Carter, nine year old Ryan Carter, and thirteen year old Chelsea Pigg, all of Rayville, Missouri, were transported from the scene of the crash by Ray County Ambulance to Ray County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Thirteen year old Bryley Conner, eleven year old Allison Johnston, seven year old Dejaleigh Minnick and seven year old Sebastian Riley, all of Richmond, Missouri, were also transported from the scene of the crash by Ray County Ambulance to Ray County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Driver Chad Benton refused medical treatment at the scene of the crash. The school bus was totaled and was towed from the scene by Carmichael Towing.

Investigation of this crash continues and a summons is pending.
