On Tuesday, August 9, 2011 about 3 p.m., 18 year old Stetson Hanning of Salem, Missouri drove a 1999 Mazda westbound on Missouri Route 32. Also from Salem, Katurah Vaughn and 17 years of age, was driving eastbound in a 2000 Chevrolet. Both drivers had no passengers with them.
The head-on collision occurred when Mr. Hanning strayed into the center lane with oncoming traffic. His Mazda then smashed into the front end of Katurah’s Chevrolet. Both teenagers were airlifted to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur for medical attention. Hanning was wearing a seatbelt, but Katurah was not. They both suffered from serious injuries. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, drivers under 21 were involved in 9,691 personal injury accidents in 2009. A total of 14,904 were injured in those car crashes.
Katurah and Stetson were transported and treated for their serious injuries due to this crash. Both vehicles sustained major damage and were totaled. Later, the vehicles were towed by Whitakers Towing of Salem. The result of their totaled cars and serious injuries from this crash occurred due to the negligent driving error states the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
