Greenwood, Missouri man is killed in a crash with a dump truck towing a flat bed trailer, resulting in a wrongful death suit filed by the decedent’s surviving wife.

On June 30, 2011 at approximately 10:08 p.m., 52 year old Stephen Hutinett of Greenwood, Missouri, was operating a Ford F-150 pickup truck, traveling on Missouri 17 near Crocker, Missouri. The Hutinett vehicle was occupied by himself and his wife, Sharon Hutinett. At that said time and place, Kenneth Helton was operating a dump truck which was towing a flatbed trailer owned by Douglas Sloan of Sloan Excavating. The Hutinett vehicle then crashed into a flatbed trailer being towed by Helton.

Stephen Hutinett died as a result of the crash. The decedent’s wife, Sharon Hutinett, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck and is not commenting at this time.

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the decedent’s wife, Sharon Hutinett, and alleges that the flatbed trailer in question broke away from the dump truck and crossed into the path of the Hutinetts’ pickup truck. Dump truck driver, Helton, and owner of the flatbed trailer being towed, Sloan, are both named as defendants in the wrongful death suit. The wrongful death suit alleges that safety chains were not used to attach the trailer to the dump truck. The suit also alleges that the trailer did not have working lights and its rear wheels did not have working air brakes, which could have prevented a wreck.

Stephen Hutinett worked as a machinist. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Sharon Hutinett, and three daughters ages 11, 13 and 27.

The wrongful death suit seeks an unspecified amount of damages.
