Poplar Bluff Teenager Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

An 18 year old boy is killed on a motorized scooter in a hit-and-run crash in Butler County, 3 miles from Poplar Bluff.

On August 14, 2011 at approximately 9:50 pm, 18 year old, Alexander Metzing from Poplar Bluff, Missouri was driving a motorized scooter heading south on Missouri 142, three miles south of Poplar Bluff. At that time, a dark blue truck was traveling south on MO 142.

The crash occurred as Metzing was slowing to make a right turn. The unknown driver struck the rear of Metzing’s motorized scooter. Further details about the truck are unknown because the driver fled the scene.

Metzing was killed and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Butler County Deputy Coroner Joe Chapman. The next of kin was notified and he was taken to the morgue at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

The motorized scooter was towed from the scene of the crash by Rushin’s Wrecker of Poplar Bluff.
