Missouri residents are injured after a driver is blinded by sunlight and strikes another vehicle.
On September 20, 2011 at approximately 7:45 a.m., 44 year old Clifford Thompson of Waynesville, Missouri was operating a 1985 Dodge Ram Charger traveling westbound on Boren Drive, about 4 miles northeast of Richland. At that said time and place, 45 year old Rebecca Proctor of Richland, Missouri was operating a 1994 Chevrolet Pick-up traveling eastbound on Boren Drive. Proctor’s vehicle was occupied by herself and two minor passengers: 14 year old Kaitlin Ledbetter and 7 year old Morgan Ledbetter.
Proctor rounded a curve, was blinded by the sun and struck Thompson’s vehicle head-on near the center of the roadway.
Clifford Thompson was transported from the scene of the crash to Lake Regional Hospital by Pulaski County Ambulance with moderate injuries. 14 year old passenger, Kaitlin Ledbetter, was transported from the scene of the crash by Pulaski County Ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries. 7 year old passenger, Morgan Ledbetter, was treated at the scene of the crash for minor injuries. The at-fault driver, Rebecca Proctor, was also transported from the scene of the crash by Pulaski County Ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Thompson’s vehicle received total damage in the crash and was removed from the scene by the owner. The at-fault vehicle received total damage and was also removed from the scene of the crash by owner. Both drivers possessed insurance coverage for their vehicles at the time of the crash. None of the individuals involved in this crash were wearing their safety devices.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. D.M. Hedrick of Troop I.
