In Cass County, one vehicle attempts to avoid hitting a dog on the roadway which causes the driver to collide head-on with another vehicle.
On October 19, 2011 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Thomas Dusselier, age 46 and a resident of Kansas City, Missouri was operating a 1995 Ford Dump Truck and traveling in the southbound direction on Missouri Route D, .02 miles north of 183rd Street. Traveling northbound is Walter Cunningham, age 55 and a resident of Paola, Kansas. Walter was operating a 2008 Chrysler and was traveling on Missouri Route D.
At that same time and place, Thomas was in the southbound direction on Route D when a dog was spotted in the roadway. Thomas attempted to avoid striking the dog by slamming on his brakes. As a result, Thomas lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the center lane and struck Walter’s vehicle head-on.
Thomas reported to be uninjured and did not seek medical attention, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. On the other hand, Walter suffers from serious injuries due to this crash. He was transported by EMS to Research Main in Kansas City, Missouri where he would be treated for his medical condition.
Walter was found to be wearing a safety device during this auto-crash.
This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Trooper B. Dehaan of Troop A.
