Minnesotan Passenger Killed in One-Car Crash

When one driver lost control of his vehicle, it overturned causing moderate injuries for himself and the death of his passenger.

On December 14, 2011 at approximately 1:14 A.M., 21-year-old Steven Buchanon from Troy, Missouri was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu and heading southbound on Route J 110 feet north of Oak Forest Drive in Lincoln County. Buchanon had one passenger – 39-year-old Scott Trom from Big Lake, Minnesota.

The crash occurred when Buchanon travelled off the left side of the roadway and then overcorrected and slid off the right side of the road crashing into a concrete driveway barrier. The vehicle overturned onto its top and came to rest facing west. Neither Buchanon nor Trom was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Buchanon suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to St. Joseph Hospital West of St. Louis, Missouri by Lincoln County Ambulance. Then he was transported to St. Joseph Hospital of St. Charles by St. Charles County Ambulance. Trom was killed as a result of this crash, pronounced dead at the scene, and transported by McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home to his family’s location in Troy, Missouri.

Buchanon’s vehicle received total damage and was towed by Brian’s Towing of Troy, Missouri. It is unknown whether or not Buchanon had Automobile Insurance at the time of the crash. This investigation was led by Sergeant M. Coon and Corporal J. Mulkey of Troop C in Lincoln County.
