Teenage Driver Killed in Franklin County Accident

When one teenage driver failed to stop at a stop sign, he entered the intersection of Hendricks Road and Highway 30 and crashed into oncoming traffic. The at-fault driver and victim suffered moderate injuries, and his passenger was killed as a result of this crash.

On November 29, 2011 at approximately 2:05pm, 17-year-old Gunnar Smith from Dittmer, Missouri was traveling southbound on Highway 30 at Hendricks Road in a 2003 Ford Escort. At same time and place, 66-year-old Glennon Naeger from Perryville, Missouri was operating a 1999 Winnebago traveling eastbound on highway 30. Smith had one passenger – Nicholas Decker, age 17, from High Ridge, Missouri.

The crash occurred when Smith entered the intersection of Hendricks Road and Highway 30 after failing to stop at a stop sign. Naeger crashed in to the right side of Smith’s vehicle. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

Decker was killed as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The next-of-kin was notified, and he was taken to the St. Louis morgue by Russell Funeral Home. Smith suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by Arch Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, Missouri. Naeger suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by St. Clair Ambulance.

Smith’s Ford was totaled and towed from the scene of the crash by Hoffman’s Towing and Service of St. Clair, Missouri. Naeger’s Winnebago was totaled and towed from the scene of the crash by Vogelgesang Towing of St. Clair, Missouri.
