Fatality Accident in Lake St. Louis

In St. Charles County, one fatality occurs when the driver was travelling too fast for the snowy weather conditions and forces each other off the roadway.

On February 13, 2012 at approximately 7:25 a.m., Dennis Cochran, age 57 and of Vincennes, Illinois was operating a 2012 Volvo Conventional Tractor and traveling in the westbound direction. Bertha Washington, age 36 and of Lake St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu and traveling in the westbound direction. Both vehicles were traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 64 at Lake St. Louis Boulevard.

At that said time and place, Berta was entering I-64 heading westbound at Lake St. Louis Boulevard as Dennis was in the first lane of I-64. Berta was travelling too fast for the crucial weather conditions as she slid in front of Dennis’ vehicle causing him to strike the rear of Bertha’s vehicle and forcing him off the left side of the roadway, striking the guardrail and colliding with a bridge pillar. Bertha travelled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Dennis Cochran was pronounced dead by EMS on the scene of the crash. Dennis was transported to St. Louis County morgue by the medical examiner. Bertha reported to be uninjured and did not seek any medical attention.

Dennis’ 2012 Volvo received total damages and was towed by Skyline Towing. Bertha’s 2001 Malibu also received total damages from the crash and was towed by Crash City.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C.
