High-Speed Police Chase Sends Two Teenagers to Hospital by Life-Flight

When one teenage driver was being pursued by the police, he crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front of him on I-70 and caused moderate injuries for himself and serious injuries for his victim in Monroe County.

On February 25, 2012 at approximately 12:00 A.M., 17-year-old Tristan Davis from Moberly, Missouri was traveling eastbound on US 24 three miles east of Paris, Missouri in a 1999 Durango and was being pursued by police. At said time and place, Katy Hays, age 17, from Monroe City, Missouri was traveling eastbound in a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu.

The crash occurred when Davis crashed into the rear of Hays’s vehicle on US 24 during the pursuit.

Davis suffered moderate injuries as a result of this crash and was transported by Monroe City Ambulance to Moberly Regional Medical Center then life-flighted to the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Hays, the victim, suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by Air Evac to University Hospital.

Davis’s Durango received extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Cummin’s Towing and Recovery of Paris, Missouri. Hays’s Malibu received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Cummin’s Towing and Recovery.

This investigation was led by Trooper Lee C. Ewigman and assisted by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Crash Team No. 2, Monroe County Fire Department, Monroe County Ambulance, and several other police officers.
