Improper Driving Results in Four Person Injury Crash

In Cole County, the driver was operating his vehicle in the improper lane and while the oncoming traffic tried to avoid collision a crash resulted with four people injured.

On February 9, 2012 at approximately 12:00 p.m., James McDowell, age 61, and his wife Betty, age 59, were operating a 2010 Nissan and traveling in the eastbound direction of US 54. James and his wife are residents of Eldon, Missouri. William Griffy, age 88, and his wife, Myrtle, were operating a 2001 Mercury and traveling in the westbound direction of US 54. William and his wife are both residents of Lake Ozark, Missouri.

At that said time and place, Griffy was traveling westbound on US 54, 3.2 miles west of Old Ridge Road, in the passing lane of the eastbound lanes. McDowell was currently driving in the eastbound direction on US 54 in the passing lane as well. As both vehicles were approaching each other, McDowell reacting towards the oncoming vehicle in his lane he swerved to avoid collision. Griffy’s vehicle swerved to the right and both vehicles side swiped.

James and his wife Betty both received moderate injuries from the collision and was transported by ambulance to Capital Region Hospital. William and his wife Myrtle both sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Capital Region Hospital as well.

James’ 2010 Nissan received extensive damages resulting from the crash and William’s 2001 Mercury received moderate damages. Both vehicles were towed by Tow Pro in Holts Summit, Missouri.

This crash collision was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop F.
