Two Fatalities for Creighton Residents

In Cass County, residents of Creighton, Missouri attempt to pass another vehicle on a hill crest and collide head-on with vehicle killing both passengers.

On February 22, 2012 at approximately 7:37 p.m., Charles Kagarice, age 32, and his passenger Staci Cooper, age 26 and both from Creighton, Missouri were operating a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and were traveling in the eastbound direction. Tammy Powers, age 47 and of Harrisonville, Missouri was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and traveling in the westbound direction. David Phoenix, age 38 and of Centerview, Missouri was operating a 2008 Dodge Ram and traveling in the eastbound direction.

At that said time and place, Charles and Staci were traveling eastbound on East Highway 2 on a motorcycle. Charles attempted to pass David on a hill crest and veered into the opposite lane. Charles was unable to see Tammy’s vehicle approaching westbound when Charles collided with Tammy head-on, ejecting both driver and passenger on the motorcycle. Charles’ motorcycle then struck David’s vehicle while Tammy drove off the left side of the road striking a utility pole and fence. Charles was able to drive to a controlled stop.

Charles Kagarice and Staci Cooper were pronounced fatal at the scene of the crash by Jackson County coroner, Jaci Donath. Tammy Powers received serious injuries from the collision and she was transported to Research Main Hospital for medical treatment. David Phoenix did not report to have any injuries and did not seek medical attention.

Charles’ 2002 Harley Davidson and Tammy’s 1999 Suburban received total damages and both were towed by Johnson’s Towing. David’s 2008 Dodge sustained moderate damages and was able to be driven from the scene of the crash.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop A, Cass County Sheriffs and Fire, Jackson County coroner’s office, and MODOT.
