Cass County Crash Sends Three to Hospital

When one driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic before turning onto Route C from Highway M-2, she crashed into another driver and caused serious injuries for herself, her passenger and the victim in Cass County.

On March 6, 2012 at approximately 11:20 A.M., 29-year-old Etta Vheedor from Freeman, Missouri was traveling eastbound on Highway M-2 in a 1998 Pontiac. Vheedor had one passenger – Tiffany Casteel, age 32, from Freeman, Missouri. At said time, Donald Stepaniak from Stillwell, Kansas was traveling westbound on Route C in a 2009 Mercury.

The crash occurred when Vheedor attempted to make a left turn onto Route C from Highway M-2 and failed to yield to oncoming driver, Stepaniak. The vehicles crashed nearly head-on.

Vheedor suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to North Research Main Hospital. Vheedor’s passenger, Casteel, suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to North Research Main Hospital. Stepaniak suffered serious injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to North Research Main Hospital.

Vheedor’s Pontiac received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Johnson’s Tow of Harrisonville, Missouri. Stepaniak’s Mercury received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by J’s Southland Towing of Raymore, Missouri.

This investigation was led by Trooper C.W. Bradshaw and assisted by Trooper B.R. Dehaan, Trooper G.B. Hastings and the deputies of Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
