On March 3, 2012 at approximately 9:55 p.m., Matthew Burgess, age 29 and of Lebanon, Missouri was operating a 2001 Dodge Neon and traveling in the northbound direction on Route YY. Matthew had two other passengers along in the vehicle during the time of the crash, his 32 year-old brother, John, and 32 year-old, Amanda Barrett.
At that said time and place, Matthew was traveling northbound on Route YY, one mile north of Lebanon, when he travelled off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to a rest on its top.
Amanda Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by deputy coroner, Mike Noyes. Amanda was taken to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel in Lebanon. John Burgess received serious injuries due to the impact of the crash and was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield by Lifeline Helicopter. Matthew did not seek medical attention, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Matthew was the only reported participant to be wearing a seat belt for the duration of the crash.
Matthew’s 2001 Dodge received total damages and was towed by C & S Towing.
