On May 23, 2012 at approximately 7:20 P.M., 42-year-old Dan King from Alexandria, Missouri was heading north on Route B in Clark County 3 miles north of Wayland and operating a 2000 Chevrolet pick-up. At said time, Blaine Dehart, age 87, from Keosauqua, Iowa was heading west on Route C in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Dehart had one passenger – Gertrude Dubois, age 49, from Keosauqua, Iowa.
The crash occurred when Dehart failed to yield to King. King crashed into the driver’s side of Dehart’s vehicle, and both vehicles traveled off of Route B into the ditch. Dehart’s vehicle came to rest on its top, and King’s vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side on top of Dehart’s vehicle.
Blaine Dehart and passenger Gertrude Dubois were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Clark County Coroner Ed Wilson. They were transported from the scene to Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Missouri. King suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by air evac to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
This investigation was led by Trooper Bryan Hillyer and assisted by Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Clark County Ambulance, Clark County Rescue, and Wayland Fire Department. This was Troop B’s 11th and 12th fatalities for the 2012 year.
