Three Injured in ATV Accident

In Mercer County, an ATV accident leaves three participants injured after one of the all terrain vehicles overturned and ejected the passengers.

On May 27, 2012 at approximately 4:15 p.m., John Whitsell, age 22 and of Clarksdale, Missouri was operating a 2009 Suzuki King Quad ATV and traveling in the northbound direction on Holly Road. Lacey Edwards, age 22 and of Hamilton, Missouri was the passenger of John Whitsell’s ATV. Stephen Farr, age 23 and of Stewartsville, Missouri was operating a 2003 Polaris Predator ATV and traveling in the northbound direction on Holly Road.

At that said time and place, both John Whitsell and Stephen Farr were traveling northbound on Holly Road, 8 miles west of Princeton, when the crash collision occurred. The crash occurred when Stephen Farr made an abrupt turn on his ATV in front of John’s ATV. John struck the rear of Stephen causing John’s ATV to overturn and ejecting himself and his passenger, Lacey. John’s vehicle came to a final rest on its side in the middle of the roadway as Stephen Farr’s ATV came to a controlled stop on the roadway.

John’s passenger, Lacey Edwards, suffered from serious injuries due to the crash and was transported by Life Flight Eagle to North Kansas City Hospital. John Whitsell received moderate injuries and was transported by Mercer County ambulance to Bethany Hospital. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Stephen Farr reported to be uninjured and refused medical treatment.

John’s 2009 Suzuki King Quad ATV received extensive damages and Stephen’s 2003 Polaris Predator ATV received total damages from the crash. Both ATV’s were removed from the scene of the crash by private parties.

This crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop H.
