Moving Vehicle Crashes into Stationary Vehicle in Johnson County

When one driver was heading south on MO 58, she crashed into a stationary driver and passenger causing minor to moderate injuries for those involved.

On June 18, 2012 at approximately 1:10 P.M., 21-year-old Cara Martin from Warrensburg, Missouri was heading south in a 2008 Mercury on MO 58 one mile south of US 50. At said time and place, Robert Tarpenning, age 52, from Kingsville, Missouri was stationary facing south in a 2000 Dodge. Tarpenning had one passenger – Dennis Dunning, age 58, from Holden, Missouri.

The crash occurred as Martin overtook Tarpenning. Martin crashed into the rear of Tarpenning’s vehicle.

Martin, the at-fault driver, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene of the crash. Tarpenning suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, Missouri. Dunning suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash to Centerpoint Hospital.

Martin’s vehicle received extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by B & L Tow of Warrensburg, Missouri. Tarpenning’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by B & L Tow.

This crash was investigated by Trooper J. Crump and assisted by Trooper B. Peters and Corporal K. Fisher of Troop A in Johnson County.
