On July 15, 2012 at approximately 11:53 a.m., 42 year old Cheryl Hayden of St. Mary, Missouri was opearating a 1987 Suzuki Motorcycle traveling southbound on MO 61, about three miles north of Fruitland. At that said time and place, 78 year old Joy Engelhart of Jackson, Missouri was operating a 2008 Pontiac Vibe traveling northbound on MO 61.
Engelhart then attempted to turn into a private drive and pulled into the path of Hayden’s motorcycle. Hayden had no chance to avoid Engelhart’s vehicle and struck the side of her vehicle.
Cheryl Hayden was transported from the scene of the crash by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The at-fault driver, Joy Engelhart, was uninjured in the crash. Both individuals involved were wearing their safety devices at the time of the crash.
Cheryl Haden’s motorcycle sustained moderate damage in the crash and was towed from the scene by Yamnitz Towing. The at-fault vehicle sustained moderate damage and was also towed from the scene of the crash by Yamnitz Towing. Both drivers involved in the crash did possess insurance coverage for their vehicles.
This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. J.L. McCullough of Troop E.
