Two Drivers Killed and Family Seriously Injured in Rear-end Collision

When one driver crashed into the rear of another driver’s vehicle on Route KK in Phelps County, both drivers were killed and the family of the victim suffered moderate to serious injuries.

On July 15, 2012 at approximately 11:00 A.M., 45-year-old William Pershing from Newburg, Missouri was heading west in a 2006 Ford Taurus on Route KK 3 miles east of St. James in Phelps County. At said time and place, Thomas Geisler, age 53, from Cuba, Missouri was heading west in a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. Pershing had three passengers: Joshua Pershing, age 9 , from Newburg, MO; Mary Pershing, age 44, from Newburg, MO; Michael Pershing, age 4, from Newburg, MO.

The crash occurred when both vehicles were westbound on Route KK. Geisler crashed into the rear of Pershing’s vehicle. After the crash, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and overturned.

Passenger and son of driver Joshua Pershing suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene of the crash to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Passenger and wife of driver Mary Pershing suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene of the crash to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Passenger and son of driver Michael Pershing suffered moderate injuries and was transported from the scene of the crash by Phelps County Ambulance to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Victim driver of the crash William Pershing was killed and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Phelps County Deputy Coroner Lenox Jones. Thomas Geisler was also killed and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Phelps County Deputy Coroner.

Pershing’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Ron Dishman Towing of Rolla, Missouri. Geisler’s vehicle received total damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Ron Dishman Towing.

This crash was investigated by Corporal Steven Cunningham and assisted by Trooper Jeffry Leathers and Corporal James Mulkey. This was Troop I’s 21st and 22nd fatalities for the year 2012.
