After being rear-ended, an Indiana resident crashes into a mile marker sign and is left with serious injuries.

On August 9, 2012, at approximately 4:10 a.m., Christopher Leipzig, age 21 of Salem, Wisconsin, was operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota traveling north on Interstate 55 at the 62.6 mile marker. At said time and place, 25-year-old Patricia Neal from New Castle, Indiana, was operating a 2003 Chrysler Voyager and was also traveling north.

Leipzig crashed into the rear of Neal’s Chrysler, causing Neal to crash into a mile marker sign. Leipzig then traveled off the left side of the road and overturned.

Leipzig received minor injuries and was removed from the scene of the crash by ambulance and taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri. Neal received serious injuries and was removed from the scene of the crash by Air Evac and taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Both drivers were wearing their safety devices.

Leipzig’s Dodge received extensive damage and was towed from the scene of the crash by Local Transfer Wrecker Service in Sikeston, Missouri. Neal’s Chrysler received extensive damages and was towed by D&K Towing in Sikeston, Missouri. Both drivers were covered by insurance at the time of the crash.

This crash was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper B. A. Pratt from Troop E.
