Two Men Killed in Phelps County Crash

In Phelps County, two men were killed when their vehicle collided into the back of a tractor-trailer on Monday morning.

On August 27, 2012 at approximately 8:35 a.m., Jama Ali, 28 years old and from St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 2002 Ford Mustang and traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 44. Liban Dirie, age 41 and from St. Louis, Missouri was the passenger in Jama Ali’s vehicle during the time of the fatality crash. Kenneth Carroll, age 51 and of West Plains, Missouri was operating a 1999 Peterbuilt tractor and traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 44.

At that said time and place, both Jama Ali and Kenneth Carroll were traveling westbound on Interstate 44. The crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that Jama drove off the left side of the road and then returned back onto the road when he collided into the rear of Kenneth’s tractor.

Jama Ali and Liban Dirie were pronounced fatal at the scene of the crash by deputy coroner, Lenox Jones. Jama Ali and Liban Dirie were transported to Phelps County Morgue by Phelps County coroner. According the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kenneth Carroll was uninjured and did not seek medical attention.

Jama Ali’s 2002 Ford Mustang received total damages from the crash and was towed by C & C Towing. Kenneth Carroll’s 1999 Peterbuilt tractor was undamaged.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop I. This is troop I’s 30th fatality for 2012.
