Failure to Yield Causes Rear-end Collision

In Sainte Genevieve County, the driver of one vehicle failed to notice and observe her surrounds as she collided with another vehicle.

On September 14, 2012 at approximately 2:15 p.m., Nicholas Derecskey, age 20 and of Perryville, Missouri was operating a 1991 Ford Explorer and traveling in the northbound direction. Christina Levleit, age 22 and of Sainte Genevieve, Missouri was the passenger in Nicholas’ vehicle during the time of the collision. Terri Collins, age 19 and of Bloomsdale, Missouri was operating a 2001 Lexus RX300 and traveling in the northbound direction. Franklin Collins, age 79, was the only passenger in Terri’s vehicle during the time of the crash.

At that said time and place, both vehicles were on US highway 61, north of Molasses Hollow, and traveling in the northbound direction. The rear-end collision occurred as Nicholas Derecskey was attempting to make a left turn onto a private road. Terri Collins failed to notice Nicholas’ attempt to turn onto the road and collided into the rear of his vehicle.

Nicholas Derecskey received moderate injuries and his passenger, Christina Levleit, received minor injuries from the crash. Terri Collins sustained serious injuries as her passenger, Franklin, received moderate injuries from the collision. All participants involved in this crash were taken by Sainte Genevieve County ambulance to Sainte Genevieve Memorial Hospital.

Nicholas Derecskey’s 1991 Ford Explorer received total damages from the collision and was towed by D & S Towing. Terri Collin’s 2001 Lexus received extensive damages and was also towed by D & S Towing.

This crashwas investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C.
