Four-vehicle Crash Injures Three

In Jefferson County, three people are injured after a four-vehicle collision on Missouri highway A.

On September 21, 2012 at approximately 7:35 a.m., David Barnes, age 25 from Festus, Missouri was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. The second vehicle involved in the crash is Bianca Strickland, age 23 from Gerald, Missouri and was operating a 2012 Hyundai Veloster. The third vehicle involved in the crash is Austin Schrum, age 18 from Bonne Terre, Missouri and was operating a 2003 Buick Rendezvous. The fourth vehicle involved in the crash is Lana Lauterwasser, age 65 from Hillsboro, Missouri.

The crash occurred as David Barnes was westbound and Bianca, Austin, and Lana were in the eastbound direction on Missouri Route A and west of Pioneer Road. David Barnes crossed the center line and collided with the front of Bianca Strickland’s vehicle, which then Austin Schrum collided with the left side of Bianca Strickland’s vehicle. Bianca and Austin’s vehicles traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a rock bluff. After the impact, David Barnes’ vehicle rotated and then collided with the front of Lana Lauterwasser’s vehicle.

David Barnes suffered serious injuries from the collision and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur by air evacuation helicopter. Bianca Strickland received moderate injuries and was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by Big River ambulance. Lana Lauterwasser received serious injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital by Survival Flight helicopter. According to the crash report taken by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Austin Schrum was uninjured.

David Barnes’ 2011 Chevrolet Cruze received total damages from the collision and was towed by Tom’s Towing. Bianca Strickland’s 2012 Hyundai Veloster and Austin Schrum’s 2003 Buick Rendezvous received extensive damages and was towed by Haberberger Towing. Lana Lauterwasser’s 2004 Dodge Caravan received extensive damages and was towed by Tom’s Towing.

This auto-collision was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop C.
