Head-on Collision Kills Nevada Woman

In Vernon County, a Nevada, Missouri resident is killed in a head-on collision after swerving to avoid a crash.

On November 12, 2012 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Linda McCartney, age 54 from Nevada, Missouri was operating a 2005 Dodge Neon. Shelly Zartman, age 36 from El Dorado Springs, Missouri was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.

At that said time and place, Linda McCartney was traveling in the eastbound direction on U.S. Highway 54, three miles east of Nevada, Missouri while Shelly Zartman was in the westbound direction. The crash occurred as Linda abruptly pulled into the oncoming traffic lanes to avoid a vehicle from striking her. When Linda swerved into the westbound lanes, Shelly’s vehicle and Linda’s vehicle collided head-on.

Linda McCartney was pronounced dead by the Vernon County coroner, David Ferry, and she was transported to Ferry’s Funeral Home in Nevada, Missouri. Shelly Zartman received minor injuries from the collision and was taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Shelly Zartman was wearing her seat belt during the crash and Linda McCartney was not.

Linda McCartney’s 2005 Dodge Neon received total damages and was towed by Garwood’s Towing. Shelly Zartman’s 2004 Chevrolet Silverado received moderate damages and was towed by Garwood’s Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop D. This is troop D’s 82nd fatality for the year of 2012.
