In Lafayette County, a rear-end collision caused one vehicle to travel off the roadway and into a ditch, killing the two passengers.
On October 27, 2012 at approximately 8:53 p.m., Sally Catanese, age 60, was operating a 2002 GMC. Sally was traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 70. WIlliam Catanese, age 63, was the only passenger in Sally’s vehicle during the time of the crash. Sally and WIlliam Catanese are both residents of Canon City, Colorado. Harry Corwell, age 73 from Independence, Missouri was operating a 2005 Toyota. Harry Corwell was traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 70.
At that said time and place, both vehicles were traveling in the westbound direction on Interstate 70 at the 61 mile marker. The crash occurred as Harry rear-ended Sally’s vehicle and causing her vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway. Sally’s vehicle collided with an embankment and a ditch, overturning the vehicle.
Sally and William Catanese were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Lafayette County coroner, Dr. Singh, and then transported to Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all participants involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts and Harry Corwell was uninjured.
