On December 3, 2012 at approximately 4:35 p.m., Karen Miles, age 53, was operating a 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio. Cameron Miles, age 23, and Walter Johnson, age 16, were passengers in Karen’s vehicle. Ralph Gadt, age 61, was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Impala.
At that said time, Karen Miles was traveling in the southbound direction on Route O, .7 mile north of I-70, as Ralph Gadt was traveling in the northbound direction. The collision occurred as Karen crossed the center line and into the path of Ralph’s vehicle. Karen’s vehicle rotated and came to a rest in the southbound lane facing north. Ralph’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and came to a rest.
Karen Miles received serious injuries and was taken to Research Hospital by the Staff For Life crew. Cameron Miles was seriously injured and transported by Lifeflight Eagle to Research Hospital. Walter Johnson received serious injuries and was transported by Lexington EMS to Lafayette Regional Hospital. Also, Ralph Gadt was seriously injured from the collision and was transported by Lifeflight Eagle to Truman Medical Center. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Karen Miles was the only one wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of troop A, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lexington Police Department, Odessa Police Department, and the Mayview Fire and EMS.
