Fatal Crash in Stoddard County

In Stoddard County, the driver of a vehicle is killed after he ran off the road and over corrected.

On January 16, 2013 at approximately 2:45 p.m., Daniel Whittemore, age 34 from Advance, Missouri was operating a 2007 Freightliner. Tracy Williams, age 47 from Advance, Missouri and Jonathan Eldridge, age 29 from Marble Hill, Missouri were the only two passengers inside Daniel’s vehicle during the time of the crash.

At that said date and time, Daniel Whittemore was traveling in the westbound direction on Route AB and .10 mile east of Stoddard County Road 506. The crash occurred as Daniel drove off the right side of the road, over corrected, and then ran off the left side of the roadway, over corrected and overturned. The vehicle came to its final rest on its side.

Daniel Whittemore was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Stoddard County coroner, Kenny Pope, and then transported to the Stoddard County coroner’s office in Dexter, Missouri. Tracy Williams received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Jonathan Eldridge was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all the passengers involved in this crash were not wearing their seat belts.

Daniel Whittemore’s 2007 Freightliner received total damages from the crash and was towed by Carnell’s.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop E, Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, Bloomfield Fire, Stoddard County EMS, and MoDot. This is Troop E’s 1st fatality for 2013.
