Hit & Run Crash Kills Kirbyville Woman

In Wright County, a hit and run crash kills a woman from Kirbyville after the at-fault driver fled the scene.

On December 30, 2012 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Ashlea Harper, age 27 from Kirbyville, Missouri was operating a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. Christopher Fields, age 36 from Mansfield, Missouri was operating a 2003 Dodge Caravan.

At that said date and time, Ashlea Harper and Christopher Fields were traveling in the westbound direction on US Highway 60. The crash occurred as Christopher’s vehicle collided into the rear of Ashlea’s vehicle, which caused her vehicle to run off the right side of the road and into an embankment. Ashlea’s vehicle overturned several times, ejecting Ashlea from her vehicle. Christopher continued for a short distance before traveling off the right side of the roadway and then fled the scene on foot. Christopher was located and arrested soon after.

As required by law, the surviving driver was tested for alcohol.

Ashlea Harper was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Jacob Spain of Mercy Hospital and then transported to Craig Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Christopher Fields received minor injuries from the crash and was transported by Mercy ambulance to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, neither passenger was wearing their seat belt during the time of the collision.

Ashlea Harper’s 1999 Chevrolet S-10 received total damages and was towed by Elliott’s Tow. Christopher Field’s 2003 Dodge Caravan received moderate damages and was towed by Elliott’s Tow.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop G and the Wright County Sheriff’s Department. This is Troop G’s 4th fatality for the month of December and 38th fatality for the year of 2012.
