On January 12, 2013 at approximately 12:23 p.m., Bonnie Weaver, age 75 from Tulsa, Oklahoma was operating a 1998 Dodge Dakota pick-up. Johnny Washburn, age 58 from Asbury, Missouri was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Along with Johnny is his vehicle was his family; Deborah (49), Abby (19), Samantha (13), and Karli (12).
At that said date and time, Johnny was traveling in the eastbound direction while Bonnie Weaver was traveling in the westbound direction on I-44 and two miles northwest of Sarcoxie, Missouri. The collision occurred as Bonnie Weaver was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-44 and was approaching oncoming traffic. Bonnie’s vehicle collided with Johnny Washburn’s vehicle head-on.
Johnny Washburn and Bonnie Weaver were pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County assistant coroner, George Woodward, and then were taken to Joplin Mortuary Service in Webb City, Missouri. The entire Washburn family received serious injuries from the head-on collision and was transported by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all occupants of this crash were wearing their seat belts.
Bonnie Weaver’s 1998 Dodge pick-up and Johnny Washburn’s 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer received total damages and were towed by M & M Towing.
