I-29 Traffic Crash Results in Serious Injuries

In Platte County, the driver in a previous crash was blocking a lane of traffic which resulted in the collision with another vehicle.

On January 29, 2013 at approximately 11:11 p.m., Cody Darr, age 26 from Winterset, Iowa was operating a 1995 Buick Skylark. German Rivera-Torres, age 30 from Kansas City, Missouri was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier.

At that said date and time, Cody Darr and German Rivera-Torres were traveling in the southbound direction on I-29 at 64th Street. The crash occurred as German Rivera-Torres was previously in a crash earlier and was blocking the left lane of traffic. As the 2001 Chevy blocked the lane ahead, Cody Darr continued to travel along I-29 and collided into German’s vehicle. It is unknown at this time why Cody Darr did not see German’s vehicle.

Cody Darr and German Rivera-Torres were seriously injured and both were transported by Kansas City Fire and EMS to North Kansas City Hospital. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both occupants were wearing their seat belts.

German Rivera-Torres’ 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier and Cody Darr’s 1995 Buick Skylark received total damages and were towed by GT Tow.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop A.
