Only Baby Survives in Head-on Collision

In Jasper County, the at-fault driver and the driver of the other vehicle are killed after one crossed over the center line and the vehicles collided head-on.

On February 6, 2013 at approximately 5:32 p.m., Brandon Stuckey, age 22 from Belleville, Missouri was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. Julie Cartwright, age 48 from Joplin, Missouri was operating a 2000 GMC Sierra. Julie Cartwright’s grandson, Hayven, was the only passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

At that said date and time, Brandon Stuckey was traveling in the eastbound direction and Julie Cartwright was in the westbound on Route HH at County Road 175. The head-on collision occurred as Brandon crossed over the center line and collided with Julie’s vehicle head-on.

Julie Cartwright and Brandon Stuckey were pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County coroner, Rob Chapel, and then both were transported to Joplin Mortuary Services. Hayven Cartwright did not receive any injuries during the collision and was turned over to a relative.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Julie Cartwright was the only participant involved whom did not wear a seat belt at the time of the crash and the infant who survived was in a child-safety seat.

Brandon Stuckey’s 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier and Julie Cartwright’s 2000 GMC Sierra received total damages from the head-on collision and were both towed by M & M Wrecker.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 8th and 9th fatalities for 2013.

Brandon Stuckey was a student at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, where he was studying preaching ministry. Matt Proctor, president of Ozark Christian College, announced Stuckey’s death on the college’s Facebook page this morning.
