Six-vehicle Collision Due to Malfunctioning Traffic Light

In Jefferson County, a malfunctioning traffic light caused six vehicles to be involved in a collision that injured two of the drivers.

On January 27, 2013 at approximately 2:20 p.m., Danielle Ernst, age 19 from Hillsboro, Missouri was operating a 2011 Jeep Compass. The second vehicle was driven by Benjamin London, age 41 from Brumley, Missouri and was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu. The third vehicle was driver by Scott Delong, age 57 from Fenton, Missouri and was operating a 2013 Hyundai Tuscon. The fourth vehicle was driven by James Antalick, age 69 from St. Louis, Missouri and was operating a 2003 Ford Escape. The fifth vehicle was driven by Nichole Mayes, age 26 from Fenton, Missouri and was operating a 2011 Honda Odyssey. And the sixth vehicle was driven by Wesley Davis, age 20 from High Ridge, Missouri and was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.

At that said time and date, Danielle Ernst was eastbound on Highway 30 making a left turn onto High Ridge Boulevard on a malfunctioning red traffic signal. Benjamin London was westbound on Highway 30 in lane 1, Scott Delong was stopped on southbound High Ridge Boulevard in lane 3, James Antalick was stopped in traffic on southbound High Ridge Boulevard in lane 2, Nichole Mayes was stopped behind James Antalick’s vehicle, and Wesley Davis was stopped behind Nichole Mayes’ vehicle. The crash occurred as Danielle Ernst traveled into the path of Benjamin London and the front of Benjamin’s vehicle collided with the front of Danielle’s vehicle. Benjamin then traveled uncontrollably into the southbound lanes of High Ridge Boulevard and the front of his vehicle collided with the left side of Scott Delong’s vehicle. The right side of Benjamin’s vehicle then collided with the right side of James Antalick’s vehicle and continued north and crashed with the front right corner of Nichole Mayes’ vehicle. This impact caused Nichole Mayes’ vehicle to roll back and collide with the front of Wesley Davis.

Danielle Ernst and Benjamin London received moderate injuries from the crash and were transported by North Jefferson County ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all occupants were wearing their seat belts during the time of the collision.

Benjamin London’s 1999 Chevrolet Malibu and Danielle Ernst’s 2011 Jeep Compass both received total damages and were towed by High Ridge Auto. Scott Delong’s 2013 Hyundai Tuscon received moderate damages and was towed by High Ridge Auto. James Antalick’s 2003 Ford Escape and Nichole Mayes’ 2011 Honda Odyssey received moderate damages and were driven from the scene of the crash. Wesley Davis’ 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt received minor damages and was driven from the scene of the crash.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
