Drunken Driver Kills Passenger In ATV Crash

In St. Francois County, troopers arrest ATV driver on charges for suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.

On July 24, 2013 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Benjamin Nounce, age 35 of Farmington, Missouri was operating a 2012 Polaris RZR along with passenger Jason Holbert, age 34 of Ironton, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Benjamin was traveling in the northbound direction on Highway 221 at Route NN. The crash occurred as Benjamin lost control of the ATV at Route NN and traveled off the right side of the pavement, and then collided with a utility pole before flipping over into a ditch.

Passenger Jason Holbert was pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m., from the scene of the crash by paramedic, Derek Carlton, and then transported by St. Francois County Ambulance District to the Mineral Area Morgue. Benjamin Nounce was life-flighted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, neither Benjamin Nounce nor Jason Holbert was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.

Benjamin’s 2012 Polaris RZR received extensive damages and was towed by Marler’s Towing.

Nounce currently faces drunken driving charges stemming from the crash, according to police.

The fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
