Fatal Head-on Collision

In Polk County, a four-vehicle crash and fatality is caused by the at-fault driver crossing the center line, involving a head-on collision.

On June 21, 2013 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Loren Curtis, age 62 of Pleasant Hope, Missouri was operating a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis. The second vehicle was a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by Sarah Siegismund, age 18 of Springfield, Missouri. The third and fourth vehicles involved in this crash were a 1993 Chevrolet S10 driven by Ronald Harness, age 23 of Pleasant Hope, Missouri and a 2005 Toyota Matrix driven by Connie Wickam, age 40 of Halfway, Missouri.

At that said date and time, Connie Wickam, Ronald Harness and Sarah Siegismund were traveling in the northbound direction as Loren Curtis was traveling in the southbound direction on Highway H in Pleasant Hope, Missouri. The crash occurred when Loren was approaching oncoming traffic and crossed the center line, then collided head-on with Sarah Siegismund’s vehicle. Ronald Harness was traveling behind Sarah’s vehicle and tried to avoid collision but crashed into the rear of Loren’s vehicle.

Loren Curtis was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri in critical condition and later she was pronounced dead by Dr. Marcus Bailey. Sarah Siegismund received moderate injuries from the head-on collision and was taken to Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. Ronald Harness and Connie Wickam were not injured in this crash and did not seek medical attention.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Loren Curtis was the only person involved in this crash who was not wearing a seat belt.

Loren Curtis’ 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and Ronald Harness’ 1993 Chevrolet S10 both received total damages and were towed by B & B Towing of Bolivar, Missouri. Sarah Siegismund’s 2005 Jeep Liberty received extensive damages from the crash and was towed by Wakefield Wrecker and Connie Wickam’s 2005 Toyota Matrix had minor damages and was driven from the scene of the crash.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D. This is Troop D’s 52nd fatality for 2013.
