On June 27, 2013 at approximately 5:46 p.m., Steven Tallman, age 51 of Lancaster, Missouri was operating a 2012 Can AM motorcycle along with wife and passenger Carla Tallman, age 49. Nicholas Hays, age 20 of Ottumwa, Iowa was operating a 1995 Dodge Dakota.
At that said date and time, both Steven Tallman and Nicholas Hays were traveling in the eastbound direction on US Highway 136 at Luray. The rear-end collision occurred as Steven Tallman was stopped to make a left turn when Nicholas Hays collided into the rear of Steven’s motorcycle and ejected himself and Carla. The motorcycle then caught on fire.
Carla and Steven Tallman received serious injuries from the collision and were transported by air evacuation to the University Hospital of Iowa Medical Center. Nicholas Hays was uninjured and did not seek medical treatment.
Steven Tallman’s 2012 Can AM motorcycle received total damages from the crash and was towed by Newberry’s Towing of Keokuk, Iowa. Nicholas Hays’ 1995 Dodge Dakota received moderate damages and was removed from the scene of the crash by the vehicle’s owner.
This motorcycle crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop B, Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Clark County ambulance, Clark County Rescue Squad, Kahoka Fire Department, Wyaconda Fire Department, and the Scotland County ambulance.
