Sleepy Driver Seriously Injures Stewartsville Man

In Caldwell County, the at-fault driver falls asleep at the wheel and causes serious injuries for one Stewartsville man.

On June 26, 2013 at approximately 5:20 a.m., Edith Smith, age 85 of Stewartsville, Missouri was operating a 2005 Cadillac. Randall Wooden, age 49 of Parkville, Missouri was operating a 2009 Kenworth tractor trailer.

At that said date and time, Randall Wooden and Edith Smith were both traveling in the southbound direction on I-35 and in Cameron City limits. The crash occurred as Randall Wooden fell asleep at the wheel and collided with the rear of Edith Smith’s vehicle. Edith Smith traveled off the roadway, collided with a tree, and overturned.

Edith Smith received serious injuries from the collision and was transported by Cameron ambulance to Liberty Hospital. Randall Wooden did not seek medical attention.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both Edith Smith and Randall Wooden were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

Edith Smith’s 2005 Cadillac received total damages and Randall Wooden’s 2009 Kenworth tractor trailer received moderate damages. Both vehicles were towed by Scotty’s of Cameron, Missouri.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop H, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, and Cameron Police Department.
