Pedestrian Killed in MO-94 Crash

In St. Charles County, a man cutting the lawn outside a church is killed after the at-fault driver hydroplaned on a curve and struck him.

On September 12, 2013 at approximately 7:31 a.m., Laurel Schneck, age 48 of St. Charles, Missouri was operating a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer.

At that said date and time, Laurel was traveling southbound on 4795 Highway 94. Valente Zapata, age 59 of St. Charles, Missouri and an employee for TJ’s Law Services & Landscaping was doing lawn maintenance outside Trinity Lutheran Church near MO-94. The crash occurred as Laurel lost control on a curve and hydroplaned, causing her vehicle to travel off the right side of the road. Her vehicle overturned several times and struck Valente Zapata.

Valente Zapata was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by emergency personnel and then transported by Lonnings Funeral Home to St. Louis County Morgue. Laurel Schneck received minor injuries and was taken by St. Charles County ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital East.

Laurel Schneck was cut out of her vehicle by firefighters from the Orchard Farm Fire Protection District.

Laurel’s 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer received total damages and was towed by Cardinal Towing.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop C.
