Second Twin Pronounced Dead After Hotel Pool Drowning Incident

In St. Louis County, two nine-year old twin boys drowned in a swimming pool at a downtown St. Louis hotel were reported from a source to be playing a game to see who could hold their breath the longest under water.

The family was having a pool party, and their mother was in the pool area with her back to the boys when it happened, the source said. Police do not anticipate any criminal charges to be filed against her.

The twins’ 14-year-old brother is the one who noticed the boys were drowning, the source said.

Police were called to the indoor pool area at Pear Tree Inn, 2211 Market Street, shortly before 5 p.m., Saturday on October 5th after Laron and Derrone Snelson were pulled out from the pool.

Both boys were unresponsive at the scene, police said.

They were taken to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, where Laron was pronounced dead that day and Derrone was in critical condition. He died Tuesday, October 8th due to his injuries.

The case has been turned over to the Police Department’s child abuse division, which is standard procedure in a child death.
