Four-vehicle Crash Results In Serious Injuries

In St. Louis County, four vehicles are involved in a collision that seriously injures two people of Washington, Missouri.

On January 28, 2014 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Christopher Demper, age 41 of St. Clair, Missouri was operating a 2010 Kia Forte. Zachary Wheat, age 23 of St. Clair, Missouri was operating a 2008 Dodge Avenger. Stanley Fleer, age 78 of Washington, Missouri was operating a 2009 Dodge Avenger along with passenger Janice Fleer, age 72 of Washington, Missouri. Pavel Khalus, age 33 of Lexington, Kentucky was operating a 2009 Volvo Tractor Trailer.

At that said date and time, all vehicles were traveling in the westbound direction on I-44 and at the 259.6 mile marker. The crash occurred as Christopher stopped for traffic conditions ahead when Zachary Wheat failed to stop and the front of his vehicle collided with the rear-end of Christopher’s. Then Stanley failed to stop and collided with the rear-end of Zachary’s vehicle. Stanley’s vehicle rolled backwards, crossing lane 2 and into lane 3. Pavel was stopped in lane 3 when Stanlet collided with the front of Pavel’s vehicle.

Janice and Stanley Fleer both received serious injuries and were transported by Eureka ambulance to Mercy Medical in Creve Coeur.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all the participants involved in this crash were wearing their seat belts.

Christopher’s 2010 Kia Forte received extensive damages and was towed by Hyndrich Towing. Zachary’s 2008 Dodge Avenger received extensive damages and was towed by Hoffman’s Towing. Stanley’s 2009 Dodge Avenger received total damages and was towed by Hyndrich Towing. Pavel’s 2009 Volvo Tractor Trailer received moderate damages and was towed by Hyndrich Towing.
