On February 4, 2014 at approximately 12:00 p.m., Hari Singh, age 47 of Merced, California was operating a 2003 Kenworth Tractor. Larry Smith, age 69 of Porter, Texas was operating a 2003 Sterling Tractor. Leon Sullivan, age 60 of Scott City, Missouri was operating a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck.
At that said date and time, both the vehicles of Hari and Larry were traveling in the westbound direction on I-44 and six miles west of Mount Vernon while Leon’s vehicle was parked in the median facing east. The crash occurred as Hari was approaching traffic that was backed up when he lost control on the snow and icy roadway and collided with Larry’s vehicle, which was stopped in traffic. Due to the impact from the collision, it forced Larry’s vehicle into the median. Hari’s vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and collided with Leon’s parked car, then collided with the median cable. Leon attempted to jump over the median cable to avoid being hit by Hari’s vehicle but was hit by the median cable due to the force of impact from the collision.
Leon Sullivan received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Larry Smith received minor injuries and sought his own treatment. Hari Singh was uninjured and did not seek medical treatment.
Hari Singh’s 2003 Kenworth Tractor received extensive damages. Larry Smith’s 2003 Sterling Tractor received extensive damages and was towed by Biellier’s Wrecker Service. Leon’s 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck received moderate damages and was towed by Stop and Shop Towing.
This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop D.
