Fatal Head-on Collision

In Cape Girdardeau County, a head-on collision ends fatally as the at-fault driver is killed and the other vehicle involved receives serious injuries.

On March 1, 2014 at approximately 7:20 a.m., Jimmy Tankersley, age 67 of Jackson, Missouri was operating a 2010 Chrysler. Christopher Chastain, age 33 of Cape Giraredeau, Missouri was operating a 2010 Ford.

At that said date and time, Jimmy Tankersley was traveling in the northbound direction while Christopher Chastain was traveling in the southbound direction on Missouri Highway 25 and .5 miles north of Gordonville. The crash occurred as Jimmy crossed the center line, colliding head-on with Christopher’s vehicle.

Jimmy Tankersley was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Cape Giraredeau County coroner, John Clifton, and then transported by Cape County Morgue. Christopher Chastain received serious injuries from the deathly collision and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Jimmy Tankersley was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision. Christopher Chastain was reported to be wearing his during the crash.

Jimmy’s 2010 Chrysler received total damages and was towed by TomKat’s Towing. Christopher’s 2010 Ford also received total damages but was towed by Kosmetic Kar Doctor.

This fatality crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop E. This is Troop E’s 10th fatality for the year of 2014.
