Six Children Receive Serious Injuries in Miller County Crash

In Miller County, six children receive serious injuries after the front seat passenger jerked the steering wheel from the driver, which then caused the vehicle to overturn several times.

On March 22, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Kathy Doyle, age 54 of Barnett, Missouri was operating a 2005 Ford Freestyle along with passengers; Craig Doyle (54), Marissa Turpin (9), Aleah Doyle (7), Branden Decker (7), Lloyd Turpin (6), and Jayden Turpin (5).

At that said date and time, Kathy Doyle was traveling in the westbound direction on Missouri Highway 52 and just west of Hackler. The crash occurred as the front seat passenger, Craig Doyle, grasped the steering wheel from the driver, Kathy Doyle, and jerked it to the right. In an attempt to regain control of the vehicle, Kathy over corrected to the left, traveled across the center line, and then over corrected to the right. Then the vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned several times.

Marissa and Lloyd Turpin received serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. Jayden Turpin received serious injuries and was transported by Staff For Life to the University Hospital. Branden Decker and Aleah Doyle received serious injuries and were both transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. Craig Doyle received moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. Kathy Doyle did not report any injuries to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, none of the children inside the vehicle were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

Kathy’s 2005 Ford Freestyle received total damages and was towed by Prater’s.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and with the assistance of Troop F.
