Five Car Crash

In Cape Girardeau, a tractor trailer trying to avoid a collision with a vehicle backing into lanes causes a pile up on interstate 55.

On July 11, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Wagner Johnson, age 66 of Macon, Georgia was operating a 2006 Kenworth. Pauline Slinkard, age 52 of Oakridge, Missouri was operating a 2014 Toyota Corolla with passenger Roger Slinkard, age 55 of Oakridge, Missouri. Brian Moyer, age 44 of Horn Lake, Mississippi was operating an international diesel truck. Mark Zurflauh, age 57 of St. Louis, Missouri was operating a 1999 Lexus SUV. Matthew Hodge, age 36 of Fulton, Missouri was operating a 2012 Peterbuilt.

At that said date and time, Wagner Johnson was traveling north bound on interstate 55 when he drove off the right side of the road to avoid an unknown vehicle backing south bound in the north bound lanes. Wagner struck the guardrail with the trailer, dislodging the dual axle from trailer into the northbound lanes. Pauline Slinkard served to miss the axle in the roadway striking the axle with the left side of their vehicle. Brian Moyer then stuck the axle and ran off the roadway into the median and Matthew Hodge pulled to the shoulder along the axle in an attempt to warn other motorist of the axle. Mary Zurfluh then struck the axle pushing the axle into Matthew Hodge’s vehicle.

Roger Slinkard received minor injuries and was transported by Cape Girardeau County ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. Brian Moyer received moderate injuries and was also transported by Cape Girardeau County ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all involved in this three car crash were wearing their seat belts at the accident.

Wagner’s 2006 Kenworth had extensive damage and was towed by Brittons Wrecker. Pauline’s 2014 Toyota Corolla received minor damages and was driven form scene. Brian’s international diesel truck was totaled and towed from scene by Carnells. Mary’s 1999 Lexus SUV was totaled and towed by Yamnitz Towing. Matthew’s 2012 Peterbuilt had moderate damages and driven from scene.

This auto-crash was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol with the assistance of Troop E with assistance of Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office.
