A poorly repaired balcony railing on a rental house, lands an Illinois man in the hospital.

Jack Lipp, 19, of Illinois, remains in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon at the University Hospital, after falling from a balcony early Saturday morning December 13th.

Lipp, an MU student, was at a party on South Fourth Street, when he fell from a second story balcony that had a broken railing, to the gravel driveway below.

Jack Lipp was rushed by ambulance at approximately 2:30am Saturday morning, to the University of Missouri Hospital.

A tenant in the home, Mike Novak, said he knew the balcony railing was unsafe, and that it was only being held up by two 2 x 4s, that the landlord used to repair it. The landlord, said to be Asmar Nakhle of Ginger C LLC, owns numerous rental houses on Fourth Street.

The Columbia Police Department is asking witnesses to come forward who might have more information about the fall. They are to contact Detective Julie Ray at 573-874-7610 or at jamarty@gocolumbiamo.com.
