Pastor Charles H. Hammack and Wife, Helen L. Hammack, are Seriously Injured in a Head On Collision

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, James L. Clair, 84, was eastbound on Highway 136, in a 2006 Jeep Liberty just west of Memphis. Mr. Clair’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck a westbound 1997 Buick, driven by Pastor Charles H. Hammack, 79, of Memphis. Pastor Hammack’s wife, Helen L. Hammack, 78, was a passenger in the automobile. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hammack sustained serious injuries in the crash. They both had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Scotland County Fire and Rescue squad.

James L. Clair suffered moderate injuries in the collision. He was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

Helen Hammack was transported by ambulance to SCH and later was transported by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Charles Hammack was transported by ambulance to SCH and then was transferred by ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL before ultimately being flown by Air Evac to University Hospital in Iowa City.

Both vehicles sustained total damage in the crash and were removed from the scene by Lakeside Towing of Memphis.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Memphis Police Department, Scotland County Fire Department, Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, Scotland County Ambulance Service and first responders.

Pastor Charles Hammack serves the Kahoka Presbyterian Church.
