Tarkio’s Duane Sabins is Killed in a Tragic Accident, on Highway 59 in Atchison County.

The heavy rains that have been moving through the midwest, proved fatal for one Tarkio resident, Duane K. Sabins, on Monday July 6th around 12pm noon.

Duane K. Sabins, 52, of Tarkio, was southbound on Highway 59, about 2 miles south of Tarkio, when the rains were coming down hard. Sabins was driving a 2006 Suzuki, when he lost control in the rainstorm and skidded across the centerline. Sabins Suzuki, struck a 2006 Chevrolet Pickup in the drivers door, driven by Garrett J. Ball, 18, of Fairfax, before being hit by a 2007 Chevrolet SUV, driven by Ronald L. Nester, 60, also of Fairfax. 

Ronald Nester was rushed to Community Hospital in Fairfax, with serious injuries, by Atchison County Ambulance.

Sabins was pronounced dead by Atchison County Coroner Shawn Minter and was taken to Minter Funeral Home. The crash scene was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Cpl. M.R. Heits (663), with assistance from, Cpl. K.G. Haywood (426), Sgt. G.D. Ward (1189), Cpl. S.M. Hux (536) and Tpr. N.J. Greiner (626). The Missouri State Highway Patrol also received assitance from the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department and the Tarkio Fire Department.

Both Nester’s Chevrolet and Sabins Suzuki, were totaled in the three car accident. Garrett J. Balls Chevy Pickup, was driven from the scene.
