A terrible accident in Henry County kills three and seriously injures two more. The accident occurred shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24th, 2016.
According to a MSHP report, Ray T. Kegley, 80, of Odessa, Missouri, was travelling northbound on Missouri Highway 13. Mr. Kegley and a passenger, Tammy J. Goff, 52, of Independence, Missouri, attempted to pass a vehicle, on a hill, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report. In the attempt, their 2015 Chevrolet struck a 2000 Pontiac, driven by William Leonard, 20, of Chilohowee, Missouri, in a head-on collision.
William Leonard was killed in the crash, along with his infant daughter, Taylor. The infant’s mother, Katrice L. Decker, 18, also of Chilohowee, Missouri, sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was transported by Air EMS to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, as was Kegley’s passenger, Tammy Goff.
Both drivers, William Leonard, Ray Kegley and Leonard’s infant daughter, Taylor, were killed in the crash. All were pronounced at the scene of the crash by Henry County Coroner, D. Sisk. Their bodies were transported to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
Both vehicles were totaled in the deadly head-on collision.
This was the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s, Troop A’s, fourth fatality crash in 2016 and their fourth, fifth and sixth fatality.
The accident was investigated by TPR J.J. Thompson, 1414, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit Team One including, SGT. G.D. Ward, 1189, and SGT J.M. Toal, 967. They were assisted by CPL. C.S. Kutzner, 462, CPL. B.R. Lange, 918, TPR. M.G. Yendes, 1410, TPR. B.R. Dodson, 1324, TPR. T.A. Baxter, 297, and TPR. J.A. Duvall, 704.
